Muzinich & Co

Muzinich & Co. is a privately owned, institutionally focused investment firm specializing in public and private credit markets. Founded in New York in 1988, we have offices in 14 locations across the US, Europe and Asia. Our business is based on a constant search for strong risk-adjusted returns, and a continuing relationship of trust with our investors. Two of our most fundamental advantages are that we are privately owned and focus on credit. Because we are privately owned, we can take a long-term partnership approach to working with our investors, without the short-term thinking that so often dominates finance. Because we are focused solely on credit, we are strongly aligned with our investors as we cannot rely on other asset classes if our credit work is not sound.

We offer a broad range of investment solutions across the credit capital structure and liquidity spectrum, including private credit high yield bonds, investment grade bonds, bank loans, CLOs, and aviation finance. We currently manage US$34.5 bn in assets¹.

Muzinich & Co. is signatory of the UN supported Principles for Responsible Investment since 2010.

Our Beliefs

  • Responsible investment is firmly aligned with our fiduciary duty as a manager of corporate credit
  • Systematic integration of important environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors provides valuable insight into drivers of business risk and could contribute to better long-term risk-adjusted returns
  • Constructive dialogue or engagement with companies in our investment universe helps us to actively identify, monitor and manage ESG and financial risks
  • It is important to tailor specific responsible investment approaches to the different types of corporate credit in which we invest
  • Working in partnership with investors enables us to offer innovative solutions to address both financial and non-financial investment objectives

Corporate Social Responsibility

Operational Improvements
We believe corporate responsibility is simply good business. It can engage employees in their work and often highlights opportunities for operational efficiencies such as energy use and transport.

We are implementing an increasingly carbon-efficient approach to our business operations, in areas such as energy use, waste disposal and business travel. We are committed to reducing our
operational emissions to net-zero by 2030 through new initiatives relating to energy use, travel and our supply chain. For our most difficult to abate emissions, we use carbon offsets to reach that goal.

Social Initiatives
We take the mental and physical health of our employees very seriously and provide regular webinar sessions that address subjects such as mindfulness, mental health, diet, exercise and general fitness. We are proud to be a member of the UK Women in Finance Charter and LGBT Great.

Supporting the Economy
We believe the ability to provide financing is a key contributing factor to the growth and development of the economic landscape, creating jobs and supporting families. Money is a powerful tool, and we have a deep fundamental view on how it should be used. Small and medium sized companies are the growth engines of the global economy. Yet these businesses can face high hurdles in obtaining financing. We believe that by providing the financing these companies need to function and flourish, and by partnering with them on that journey, has a direct benefit on the company as well as broader community. This ethos underpinned the launch of our private debt business and is a theme that continues to feature strongly across our private debt portfolios.

Decarbonising our Portfolios
We are also expanding our activities to further reduce the carbon intensity of our investments, as well as increasing our ESG disclosures.

Responsible Investing
Sustainability encompasses the protection of the natural world and intergenerational equity, tangible concepts fundamental to our economic wellbeing and successful long-term investment. We work with clients to help meet their sustainability needs, while applying the core principles of sustainable investment.

We aim to create positive change and influence on ESG factors. From an investment perspective sustainable companies can be potentially more robust and resilient. We believe consideration of ESG has the biggest impact when fully integrated into the investment process. Our investment professionals seek to actively engage with companies on sustainability risks and opportunities to understand how ESG factors drive risk and return.
