Fixed Income

Royal London Asset Management today announces that Will Nicoll is to take over management of its Fixed Income Team at the end of 2024, as Head of Fixed Income Jonathan Platt sets out his intention to retire after nearly 40 years at the company.

Jonathan will continue in his role as Head of Fixed Income and will work with Will to transition to new leadership during the year. Will is to continue as Head of Private Assets and will take leadership of the Fixed Income team, as Head of Fixed Income and Private Assets, at the end of 2024, when the transition is complete. Jonathan remains with Royal London Asset Management until the end of 2024 to ensure a smooth transition and to support Will as he moves into his new role.

There will be no change to the philosophy or processes which underpin the fixed income capabilities across Rates and Cash, Sterling Credit, or Global Credit, and the strategy for growing these areas remains unchanged. Royal London Asset Management’s plans to expand its investment capabilities into private markets also remain unchanged.

Piers Hillier, Chief Investment Officer at Royal London Asset Management, commented:

“Jonathan has had an extraordinary career at Royal London Asset Management, building our fixed income offering from scratch. A tenure of nearly 40 years is remarkable and is reflected in the strength and breadth of the team he has built over that period.

“In appointing Will to be Jonathan’s successor, we have a hugely experienced fixed income investor, whose investment style and proven track record in building and managing investment capabilities complements the Fixed Income Team’s skillset, providing consistency and assurance for clients.”

Jonathan Platt added:

“Royal London has given me the trust and space to grow a talented team since I joined in 1985. The Fixed Income team has always evolved, offering our clients new strategies and investment options, underpinned by clear investment philosophies.

“I have every confidence in the team that they will continue to deliver for our clients, based upon an experienced and collaborative team, with the strength of mind to be different.”

Will Nicoll added:

“Jonathan has built an enviable team in his near four decades at Royal London Asset Management, with a very strong track record and expertise across conservative liquidity funds, government bonds, sterling investment grade and global high yield credit markets.

“I look forward to working with Jonathan through to his retirement. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our hugely talented Fixed Income Team.”
